PhD Fellow in climate prediction of marine heat waves in the Arctic Mediteranean

About the position

“Predicting Intense Marine heatwaves in northern seas” (PRIMA).

Marine heatwaves (MHW) are events of extreme sea surface temperatures (SST) and have become more frequent due to climate change, and this trend is likely to increase in the future (IPCC, 2021). These events have recently received much attention as they have a high impact on marine life, ecosystems, and fisheries. Recently, such heatwaves have also been detected in the Arctic Ocean and the Barents Sea. However, we lack understanding of such extremes in our oceanic region, especially in terms of what is triggering these and their impacts on the marine biogeochemistry.
