Research interests

He is the leader of the NIERSC aquatic ecology group. He has developed algorithms for quantification of phytoplankton and water quality parameters in optically complex waters. These algorithms are routinely used by the Norwegian Near-Real Time HAB Monitoring System as well as applied for case studies in various parts of the world’s oceans. He was awarded the Chandler- Misener Award in 2006 for his study of dynamics of the Lake Michigan ecosystem.
