ORGANIC: Overturning ciRculation and its implications for Global cArboN cycle In Coupled models

Overturning Circulation and its imapct on ocean carbon cycle

Objectives

ORGANIC is a fundamental research project integrating mathematic, computational and natural

sciences, and is aimed at advancing our understanding of the climate system and identifying the

uncertainties associated with the future predictions. To do this, ORGANIC applies the Norwegian

Earth System Model (NorESM) to elucidate the variability and main drivers of the ocean conveyor

circulation, a key indicator for climate change. The implications of this variability on the

biogeochemical cycle in the ocean interior and marine sediment will be examined. ORGANIC will

build new expertise in interdisciplinary fields as well as initiate crucial international network, which

complements the climate research activities in Norway.
