Ola M. appointed the Royal Norwegian Order of St. Olav

His Majesty the King of Norway has appointed Professor Ola Mathias Johannessen, founding director ot he Nansen Center, to Officer of The Royal Norwegian Order of St. Olav for his efforts in climate and polar research.

The Council of the Order has in its evaluation considerably emphasized his efforts in the research of polar oceans. He has through his work given major contributions to the understanding of the importance of the polar areas for the global climate and hence key global environmental issues.
Under his supervision, the Nansen Center has developed into an internationally recognized research institution. He has thus contributed significantly to the research community in Bergen today, appearing as a central force within climate research in Norway.
Of great importance are also his efforts in international research strategy.

The insignia will be presented to him in a ceremony at the Nansen Center, Thormøhlensgate 47, Bergen on Thursday December 18th 2008 at 14:00 and will be conducted by the County Governor of Hordaland, Mr. Svein Alsaker.
