Scientifically the winter school addresses the interactions between climate change and variability, specifically related to the Indian Ocean and Indian monsoon; marine biological production, biodiversity and the integrity and functioning of marine ecosystems; and the impacts of these on the livelihood of coastal fisherfolk, by way of model experiments, remote sensing studies and analyses of data collected and compiled from different sources.

30 students from European and Indian research institutions and Universities have been selected for participation at this winter school. The inauguration ceremony took place at Bolgatty Palace on the 2.
