EmblA is the Nordic Centre of Excellence for ensemble-based data assimilation (DA). It supports Nordic users of DA methods with instruction and training, state-of-the-art open-source codes, and works for R&D in several applications.
Our environment is undergoing major anthropogenic and natural changes that we need to understand, attribute and predict. To be able to use complex 3-dimensional models of our environment to generate reliable predic- tions with documented accuracy is therefore a major challenge for e-Sciences.
SEAFINE (SEAMOS-South Fine Grid Hindcast) is an Oceanweather JIP (Joint Industry Project) for development of wind, wave and 3D currents hindcast on a fine grid of the southern part of the South China Seas.
Terra Orbit AS provides 3D currents hindcast based on a data assimilative configuration of the HYCOM model. The model includes the following goodies:
- Nested configuration from a Indo-Pacific 1/3rd deg model to a 5-km high resolution model in the South China Sea.
- High-integrity SeaFINE wind forcing from Ocean Weather Inc. (QuickSCAT based)
- Tidal forcing at the boundaries of the nested HR model.
CARBOCHANGE will provide the best possible process-based quantification of net ocean carbon uptake under changing climate conditions using past and present ocean carbon cycle changes for a better prediction of future ocean carbon uptake.
Results will be optimal process descriptions and most realistic error margins for future ocean carbon uptake quantifications with models under the presently available observational evidence. The project will deliver calibrated future evolutions of ocean pH and carbonate saturation as required by the research community on ocean acidification in the EU project EPOCA and further projects in this field. The time history of atmosphere-ocean carbon fluxes past, present, and future will be synthesised globally as well as regionally for the transcontinental RECCAP project.
