The President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) Professor Chunli Bai visited the Nansen Center as the main research institution during his current trip to Europe. President Bai wanted to get acquainted with the three Norwegian partner institutions behind the Nansen-Zhu International Research Center (NZC) founded in Beijing in 2003.

Proceedings of the Eigth EuroGOOS International Conference

The 8th EuroGOOS Conference Proceedings, Operational Oceanography Serving Sustainable Marine Development, have been released today. The EuroGOOS international conferences are tri-annual milestone events for operational oceanographic sciences. The conferences reflect the state of play and set future priorities for European oceanography across the full value chain, from observations to data processing and modelling, and to delivering fit-for-purpose services and products for users.

New model simulations: Impact of algae content on the albedo and melting of snow on glaciers

The first physical model for the spectral ‘bioalbedo’ of snow, which predicts the spectral reflectance of snow packs contaminated with variable concentrations of red snow algae of varying size and pigment concentrations have been developed. The results have been published in the paper A predictive model for the spectral “bioalbedo” of snow by J.M. Cook (University of Sheffiled) et al., including Nansen Center CEO Prof.
