The Nansen Center is an international research centre focusing on the marine environment and ocean forecasting, satellite remote sensing and climate studies and modelling. Our scientific staff comprises experts from Professor to Post-docs in the fields of oceanography, meteorology, geo-sciences, mathematics, statistics, computer science and more.

Opportunities for students at Ph.D. and Master level are offered in relation to our research projects or through individual stipends.

The “Ocean and Coastal Remote Sensing” research group at the Nansen Environmental and Remote Sensing Center (NERSC) works on integration of satellite Earth Observation (EO) data with model and in-situ data to study physical and biological ocean processes, including air-sea interactions and ocean variability up to climate scales. This includes near-real-time (NRT) monitoring capabilities, calibration and validation of satellite observations, preparation of results for use in data assimilation, and generation of long time series.
