Laurent Bertino
Leading Scientist
of the Modeling and Data
Assimilation group.
Deputy director of the Mohn-Sverdrup Center
Me ten years ago...
The Mohn-Sverdrup Center for Global Ocean Studies and Operational Oceanography
is a department of the
Nansen Environmental and Remote-Sensing Center.
Research Interests:
Sequential data assimilation in ocean models (EnKF and other advanced filters).
Ocean modeling (esp. with HYCOM).
Geostatistics for environmental data.
A few basic ideas stolen from the book by Chilès & Delfiner (1999):
What is a Monte-Carlo simulation: "I am a lie that always tells the truth" (Jean Cocteau).
The reason for probabilistic forecasts: "As soon as a map is put out, everyone around the table tends to consider
it as the truth", old saying in mining engineering.
Recent Projects:
Running
The eVITA-EnKF multidisciplinary project (funded by the Research Council of Norway, 2007-2012), Vice-coordinator together with Geir Evensen.
The MyOcean integrated project from the European
Commission's 7th Framework Programme (2009-2012), leader of WP5, the Arctic Monitoring and Forecasting Center.
The BOSS4GMES integrated project from the European
Commission's 6th Framework Programme (2007-2009)
Completed
PRECOC a project from the
Franco-Norwegian Foundation (2006-2009, Coordinator)
The MERSEA integrated project from the European
Commission's 6th Framework Programme (2004-2008)
The EMOFOR Phase-II project (2003-2005)
The TOPAZ project from the European Commission's
5th Framework Programme (2000-2003, Coordinator)
