Research Areas
The Nansen Center generate interdisciplinary scientific expertise in Earth system environmental and climate research, satellite remote sensing, modelling and data assimilation.
Our four main research areas are:
Develop coupled global ocean and atmosphere climate modelling. Studies of climate data and models to advance the understanding of climate processes and variability, focusing on high-latitudes and global teleconnections.

Develop, validate and apply remote sensing for use in ocean and sea ice studies, Greenland ice sheet variations, operational oceanography and climate research.

Develop operational oceanography aiming at meeting research and societal needs related to monitoring and management of the marine environment, marine resources, marine safety, as well as weather and seasonal climate forecasts.

Develop competence within assessment analysis, to be used in socio-economic studies related to our strategic research areas.
